About

Hello, I am Rhiannon Lloyd and I run Shersca Genealogy from the beautiful county of Somerset.

I am a qualified Genealogist and hold an MSc (Distinction) in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde. I am a member of  the Register of Qualified Genealogists (RQG). I previously took the Pharos Family History Skills and Strategies (Intermediate) course, which I completed in 2017. I have tutored on the MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies with the University of Strathclyde since 2020 and I have recently become a Teaching Fellow on the programme as well (since 2022). I am excited to be a part of the department as it moves into the future as the Strathclyde Institute for Genealogical Studies (SIGS).

Most recently (2024), I have been a part of Who Do You Think You Are? Australia (shown on SBS Australia). I got to meet the lovely Miranda Otto and help her on her journey of discovery into her maternal ancestors in Somerset. You can see the official trailer below.

My own interest in Genealogy turned a sad event into a voyage of discovery. It was after my Grandmother’s death that I realised how little I really knew about her family. There were a few family stories, but I didn’t know where my roots really lay. After a little bit of research, I started to discover that my ancestors had very deep roots in the South-West of England. I even managed to solve a family mystery!

Ever since then, I have been delving into both sides of my family history, being taken from Somerset and Dorset, to Wales, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. I have discovered many interesting things about my ancestors and have been lucky enough to find some family heirlooms, including photos, letters and even a tapestry!

It surprises many people that I initially trained as a Musician and gained my BMus in 2010 and my MA in Performance Studies in 2011, both from Cardiff University. I also have a DipABRSM from the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). I am a member of a new local band, where I sing and play all manner of woodwind instruments. Watch this space!
